This vegan tiramisu cheesecake is a layered baked dessert that you chill before serving. Layers in this recipe include crust and filling layers, topped with a whipped layer and a chocolate layer. The final dessert includes clearly defined layers, including a coffee-flavored biscuit crust and filling. I insert an espresso bean into the center of the cheesecake just before serving.

I bake my 9-inch springform pan with parchment paper and pulse the crust ingredients in a food processor until they form sand-sized crumbs. I use the bottom of a glass to press the crust so it's even; otherwise, the crust may not be even. I freeze it for 15 minutes before adding the espresso layer to help firm it up before adding the filling.
Vegan cream cheese at room temperature is the ingredient I don't replace. I beat it for 3 minutes, then add sugar and gradually add refined coconut oil and espresso and vanilla. The batter will change color as you add espresso. Cold cream cheese will clump, and unrefined coconut oil will give a coconut flavor that will interfere with the espresso flavor.
Once the custard has cooled, I whip the dairy-free topping in a cold container until firm and add a layer of whipped topping to the custard. I dust the whipped topping with cocoa powder through a fine-mesh strainer. Add a whole roasted coffee bean to the center of the dessert. Dip a knife in hot water and wipe it dry. Cut the dessert.
Why this recipe works
- The crust is already shaped into the dish. The filling is added later.
- A 9-inch cheesecake can be cut into 12 pieces. Cutting ahead of time will give you a dessert option for arriving guests.
- The cocoa is added at the end and stays dry and evenly spread on top.
- Refined coconut oil firms frozen filling for slicing without adding a coconut taste.
- A hot knife makes neater cuts in the espresso and cold toppings.
- The topping is placed after the filling. Layers stay separate when baked into the cake.
Ingredients
- •2 cups vegan digestive biscuits or graham crackers (finely crushed (240g))
- •½ cup vegan butter (melted (113g))
- •¼ cup strong brewed espresso (divided (60ml total))
- •24 oz vegan cream cheese (room temperature (680g))
- •1 ½ cups powdered sugar ((180g))
- •½ cup refined coconut oil (melted (120ml))
- •1 tsp vanilla extract ((5ml))
- •1 cup dairy-free heavy whipping cream (chilled (240ml))
- •2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting (10g))
- •1 whole roasted espresso bean (for garnish)
Instructions
- 1
Pulse the biscuits in a food processor until finely ground. Mix them with the melted vegan butter and 2 tbsp of espresso until the crumbs resemble wet sand. Press the mixture firmly into a parchment-lined 9-inch springform pan, then freeze for 15 minutes.
- 2
Beat the room-temperature vegan cream cheese in a stand mixer for 3 minutes until smooth. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar, melted refined coconut oil, vanilla extract, and remaining 2 tbsp espresso until pale beige.
- 3
Pour the filling over the chilled espresso crust. Smooth the top with an offset spatula, cover, and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, or overnight, until firm.
- 4
Remove the cheesecake from the springform pan. Whip the chilled dairy-free heavy whipping cream to stiff peaks, then spread it evenly over the set filling.
- 5
Sift the cocoa powder over the top with a fine-mesh sieve. Place the whole roasted espresso bean in the center, then slice with a hot knife.
